Simon Little

Little bio

Simon Little is a session bassist, born and living in London. Simon started learning the double bass at school in Dorset with Barry Glynn. He went on to study at The Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London (1999-2003) receiving tuition from Kevin Rundell, Jeff Clyne and Steve Watts. He first picked up an electric bass aged 15 and has never looked back. Equally at home on upright or electric basses both live and in the studio, Simon soon became one of the busiest session bassists in the UK.

Perhaps best known as the bassist with The Divine Comedy and Duke Special, he also tours regularly with Clare Teal and Maggie Reilly. As a jazz bass player he plays with Kate Eden, Lea Delaria, Ian Shaw, and Nina Ferro. Simon has also played and recorded with Nick Cave & Warren Ellis, A Girl Called Eddy, Chris Difford, Jamie Cullum, Liane Carroll, Beth Rowley, Ben Folds, Norma Winstone, Claire Martin, Pee Wee Ellis, Boo Hewerdine, Ryan Edwards, Alan Barnes, Polly Gibbons, Symeon Cosburn, Newton Faulkner, Sarah Moule, Julie McKee and The Ronnie Scott’s Allstars amongst others.

Simon plays electric, upright and fretless basses, sitar and the Chapman Stick. And if you ask him nicely, he might play the musical saw for you….

An experienced teacher and clinician, Simon occasionally takes on students on both electric and upright basses, providing tuition in a broad range of styles from classical and jazz to funk and rock. For enquiries regarding teaching contact Simon via his website.
